Renewable energy construction.

Solar and wind projects built from bare ground to energized, and maintained after.

Solar and wind, built by industrial crews

Rice Brothers provides construction services for solar and wind projects. A renewable site is still a heavy civil and electrical job: clearing and grading, foundations, piling, collection systems, substations and roads. Our crews bring the same planning and safety discipline to a solar field that they bring to a gas plant.

We also stay on after construction. Maintenance of solar installations and wind turbines keeps the asset producing, and it’s work our teams already know.

Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan have some of the strongest solar and wind resources in Canada, and they’re a short drive from our Calgary office. We’ll build renewables projects anywhere in the country.

Reclamation isn’t an afterthought on our renewables sites. Stormwater plans, erosion control, soil stabilization and seeding are part of the scope from day one, so the site meets its environmental commitments when we hand it over.

Industrial discipline on renewable sites

Renewable projects are growing fast across Canada, and they bring industrial-scale challenges: large sites, tight interconnection deadlines, environmental conditions on approvals, and weather that can shut down civil work for weeks. Our crews bring the planning and safety discipline of plant construction to every solar and wind site.

We sequence clearing, grading, piling and foundations to make the most of each construction season, and we coordinate closely with equipment suppliers and utility interconnection schedules. Battery storage, substations and collection systems are built with the same attention to quality we give process plants.

After energization, we can stay on for maintenance of solar installations and wind turbines. One contractor that knows how the site was built is often the fastest way to keep it producing.

Renewable projects are also growing in size and complexity, with more battery storage, larger turbines and longer collection systems. Our crews bring the same planning, quality control and safety program to these sites that we use on large industrial plants, so the project is ready to energize on schedule.

Renewables FAQ

Quick answers to what clients ask us most. There’s more on our FAQ page.

What solar construction services do you offer?

Site clearing and grubbing, excavation, soil stabilization, pile driving, battery storage, security fencing, service roads, substations, and environmental work such as stormwater plans, erosion control and seeding. We also maintain solar sites after construction.

Do you build wind farms?

Yes. We handle collection line right-of-way, turbine foundations, rock preparation, turbine sites, substations, access roads and site reclamation, plus ongoing turbine maintenance.

Can you install battery energy storage?

Yes. Battery storage is part of our solar scope and can be built alongside a new solar site or added to an existing one.

Do you handle reclamation and environmental compliance?

Yes. Stormwater compliance, erosion control, soil stabilization, seeding and site reclamation are built into our renewables projects.

Where in Canada do you build renewables projects?

Anywhere in Canada. Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan are close to our Calgary office, and we mobilize crews to sites in every province and territory.

Do you coordinate with utilities on interconnection?

Yes. We build substations, collection systems and access roads, and we coordinate construction sequencing with equipment suppliers and interconnection schedules so the site is ready to energize on time.
